BRIEF: Glass Replacement
Veraspec have previously re-glazed 45 triangle shaped roof panels on this buildings glass atrium. The main challenge was transporting both the damaged and new glass to and from the roof. Standard practice would have been to lift the panels via a boom crane from the street. This however would have meant closing Elizabeth Street in Melbourne CBD. To overcome this, we used a site-specific gantry crane, positioned over a void in the roof to lift the glass to and from the roof. Not only did this eliminate the obstruction of car and tram traffic along the street below but also dramatically reduced the project’s overall cost. All of these works were carried out at night to reduce the impact this project might have had on both the tenants and the public.
We continue to re-glaze 50 Double Glazed Units (DGUs) a year that have depressurised. Once the seal protecting the inner cavity of a double glazed unit fails, the window is no longer energy efficient and becomes susceptible to, moisture and mould. Due to a special coating on these windows, it is crucial that we match the replacement glass to the original precisely or there would be a visible difference.
